We will have 1 hour ride to Avala. Standing at 204 metres, Avala tower is the tallest structure in Serbia and the highest tower on the Balkan Peninsula.
The tower that stands on Belgrade’s outskirts today is Avala’s second incarnation. The original Avala Tower was constructed in 1965. and was a pioneering design for its time.
At that time, it was one of the 10 tallest towers in the world!
A masterpiece of architecture, it's the only tower in the world whose cross-section was an equilateral triangle symbolising the traditional Serbian tripod chair.
It offers a breathtaking view at 112 metres. -

Monument to the Unknown hero, Avala
This incredible pyramid-shaped granite memorial atop of Avala is the expression of gratitude to the fallen warriors for freedom in World War I.
The first Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala was built in 1922 by local villagers, in the place of the grave of an unknown fallen Serbian soldier who defended Belgrade from the joint Austro-Hungarian and German offensive.
The modern Monument to the Unknown Hero was built four years after the World War I. -

This beautiful and secluded park marks a dark spot in world history, and is a less known site on Belgrade's tourist map.
While offering us peace and quiet of nature, it also teaches us to be grateful and humble while we gaze its pebble paths.
A place of mass destruction, a living, green monument of WW2, it stands as a witness of crimes, but also survival and incredible human stories. -
